Day 8 - Loving Some Latvia

The ship ported at Riga Latvia on day 8.  Tina and I set out on our own to do some castle visits about 30 miles outside of town where we reached Sigulda Castle.  Frankly due to restoration making it inaccessible this castle itself wasn't that impressive, but the surrounding country side was absolutely beautiful.

Sigulda Castle
I might have been left behind in Sigulda, but fortunately the top part of the pillory wouldn't go down so I was saved from Tina leaving me behind.

Almost Captured
We also came across an ancient teeter-toter.  You're never too old for a teeter-toter.

The Ancient Teeter-Toter

Alright ... so I've got to admit to 2 things.  1) It really wasn't an ancient teeter-toter.  And 2) Tina probably looks too old for a teeter-toter.  Other than that it's the absolute truth.  :)

The second castle we went to visit was visible from the distance where we were.  The guard tower we would eventually climb was visible from the distance.

Turaida Castle Fortification Tower
At the grounds of Turaida Castle before we got to the castle was a beautiful rock sculpture garden.  I'm only showing a few here, but there was 20+ sculptures here done by a local artist.

Then it was off to the tower.  The steps going to the tower were ridiculously steep, not super well lit at times, about 200 miles in length (ok ... so maybe only 100 steps ...but that's enough anyway) and fun to take!  :)
