Iceland - Day 3 - Geisers

We cemented our plans for Iceland by winning an auction for a tour trip of the southern portion of the island we got at a charity event last year.  Tours aren't our regular way of doing things but this one started off well.

First stop was at Thingvellir.

Iceland is one of only a couple places where the separation between the North American and European tectonic plates happens on land.  It separates more every time there's an earthquake, usually about once a century leading to an increase in separation of another meter.

Prettiest girl on North America or European tectonic plates.  The rock above her has been hanging like that for centuries, through several earth quakes.

Next was a stop at the hot springs at Geysir.

And then for the main event.

Final stop for the day was the mighty Gullfoss waterfall.  The falls look pretty impressive when you start the trail down to a better viewing spot.

But then you get closer and the enormity of these falls takes on a whole different perspective.

And then you get to the point where you can see the whole thing and it's just simply amazing.

We honestly came away thinking these falls rival any of them in the world.

Plus you get a nice rainbow for free. 😊

Until next time ...
