Iceland - Day 4 - Glaciers and Volcanoes

Today was a long drive along the southern coast of Iceland to a glacier called Vatnajokull.  Along the way we drove past huge expanses of various lava flows from a ton of volcanoes that dominate this portion of the country as well as age old glaciers hugging the mountain slopes.

But then we got to Vatnajokull which is the largest glacier in all of Iceland, covering 8% of Icelands land.

We paid extra for a boat trip out on the lake formed by the runoff of the main glacier, but it was more than worth the price of admission.

The prettiest girl on the boat holding up Icelandic glacier ice.

And then eating said Icelandic glacier ice to quench her thirst.

Back on shore we were treated to a group of seals playing in the wild.

This guy was ready for a relaxing swim in frigid water.

This feathered friend could care less about swimming.

And then it was over to the beach where the tide was running out of the lake, depositing glistening diamond like ice into the water and onto the black sandy beaches.

Final two pics.  On the way back to the hotel we stopped by a grass roofed church, built to replicate the was churches here were built back in the 1500's.

So I apologize for so many pics, but it was an amazing day with a ton of amazing sites.

Until the next time ...
