Iceland - Day 6 - Onwards to Stykkisholmur

Getting to Stykkisholmur might have been mundane except for the fact the we detoured around the Snaefellsnes peninsula.  Our luck with weather had finally run out as we had a light rain fall and a misty fog almost the whole day.  None the less, it was still a beautiful drive.

The first stop was Arnarstapi where we had a brief lunch and then took in it's artwork rendition of a guardian spirit.  Well, correction.  Tina thought with the misty rain it was too cold to be outside so I took it in myself.  :)

Then 50 yards away was the shoreline with it's nasty waves bashing up against the rock cliffs.

Driving on further we stopped at the beach at Londrangar.  Still fogged in, but a pretty site regardless.  This time I even talked Tina into going with me.

Not sure how happy she was, but she went anyway.

There is a huge volcanic mountain on the peninsula called Snaefellsjokull.  We were originally just going to view it from the road, but it was so socked in with clouds that we couldn't see a thing.  So when we saw a gravel road heading off towards the mountain, you've just got to take it, no?

A walking bridge along the gravel road.

The glacier run off river which runs underneath that bridge.

Then finally we reached the end of the gravel road ... none too soon for Tina as the road was getting pretty rocky and narrow by that point.  We would have had to walk the rest of the way to the glacier and that simply wasn't happening.

On the drive back down.

Safe and sound back on the main road again, the world smiled at us and gave us a present.

Final stop for the day was at Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall

Until next post, keep those eyes a-winkin'!
